Tributes Paid to Motorsport legend Ken Block
American rally car driver, entrepreneur and YouTube star Ken Block was killed this week in a snowmobile accident in Utah.
It is understood that on January 2, Block was riding a snowmobile in Wasatch County, Utah, when the vehicle was flipped, landing on top of him. While he had been riding as a group, he was alone when the accident happened. He was pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries he sustained.
The 55-year-old started his career as a professional competitive rally driver in 2005 and later became globally known for his daring YouTube videos. But as a multitalented action-sportsman he had also competed in motocross, skateboarding and snowboarding. Block was also the co-founder of the skateboarding clothing brand DC Shoes and owner of Hoonigan Industries.
Tributes to Block have poured out across the globe from colleagues, competitors and admirers alike.
‘Today I received the news over the loss of a dear friend,’ said Seven time F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton.’ I’m devastated to hear of Ken Block’s passing. He was such an amazing person, always lived life to the fullest.’
Damon Way, his business partner at DC Shoes too to Twitter saying: ‘We lost our hero yesterday. There is nobody like Ken Block.’
Block is survived by his wife, Lucy, and three children.
